Andrew’s senior portrait session was one of those sessions that perfectly captures what senior year is all about. It’s that exciting moment right before everything changes. The final year of high school. Big accomplishments. Big decisions. And the anticipation of what’s coming next.

Andrew is a senior at Clover Hill High School where he is part of the highly respected Math/Sci Specialty Center, one of the most rigorous academic programs in the Midlothian area. Students in this program are known for their academic drive and curiosity, and Andrew has balanced that challenging coursework while staying involved in the things he enjoys most. He plays basketball, baseball, and football, and he also plays the trombone. Seniors like Andrew are always so fun to photograph because their sessions reflect so many different sides of who they are.

When we began planning Andrew’s senior pictures, he and his mom had a very clear vision for where they wanted them taken. He chose the historic setting of Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond, which is an iconic location for senior portraits in Richmond. The Tredegar has an incredible mix of historic brick, iron architecture, and views of the James River. The textures and industrial feel create portraits that are bold, timeless, and full of character, making it one of the best locations in Richmond for senior pictures.

One of the things Andrew was most excited about was including photos in his basketball uniform with his basketball. I always love when seniors incorporate the activities that have been a big part of their lives during high school. Sports portraits tell such an important part of the story. The combination of Andrew’s basketball uniform and the industrial backdrop at Tredegar created strong, confident portraits that really capture this season of his life.

What made this session even more meaningful for me is that I had actually photographed Andrew years ago when he played i9 Sports flag football. Being able to photograph families over the years and see these kids grow up is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. Seeing Andrew again and capturing his senior portraits felt like such a full-circle moment.

Andrew’s family also found me through a referral from a friend, which always means so much. Many of the seniors I photograph come through word of mouth from families throughout Richmond and surrounding communities like Midlothian, Chesterfield, Glen Allen, Short Pump, and the West End. I am always incredibly grateful when families trust me enough to recommend me to others.

After Andrew’s senior session, I found out some exciting news. Andrew will be attending the College of William & Mary this fall, which is an incredible accomplishment. William & Mary is one of the most prestigious universities in Virginia, and it is so exciting to see what is ahead for him.

Senior portraits are about so much more than just photos. They capture this once-in-a-lifetime season before seniors head off to college and begin the next chapter of their lives. My goal with every senior session is to create images that feel authentic, confident, and timeless so families will treasure them for years to come. This approach is part of the boutique portrait experience that defines my brand, creating images that become legacy pieces rather than just digital files.
