Richmond VA Dance Photographer-Legacy School of Dance Team Photos at University of Richmond

Richmond VA Dance Photographer | University of Richmond Professional Dance Portraits | 

The University of Richmond is one of my favorite locations for portraits, and it was the perfect setting for my photo shoot with Legacy School of Dance. Between the gorgeous architecture, beautiful landscaping, and classic Richmond feel of the campus, we had so many incredible backdrops to work with throughout their team photoshoot.

Photographing a large group of dancers is always such a fun mix of movement, personality, and creativity. For Legacy School of Dance, we created a variety of team and group photographs along with individual dance portraits and headshots. I love giving dancers the opportunity to have both the classic images their studio needs and portraits that allow them to show a little more of who they are.

And these dancers definitely gave me plenty to photograph! From jumps and turns to gorgeous lines and quieter portraits, I loved seeing what each dancer brought in front of the camera. One of the things that makes dance photography so much fun is that even when dancers are wearing the same team attire and being photographed in the same location, the finished images can look completely different. Every dancer has her own strengths, style, and personality.

The University of Richmond gave us so much variety without having to travel from location to location. The stone buildings and walkways created a more classic look, while the trees and greenery gave us softer, more natural backgrounds. Having so many options in one place allowed us to create a gallery with lots of variety while still giving the entire Legacy School of Dance team a cohesive look.

I also love what these photographs represent beyond the actual portraits. A dance team spends so much time together throughout a season—practicing, performing, competing, learning, and growing. Team photographs capture that particular group of dancers at one moment in time, and I think that makes them even more meaningful as the years go by.

For studio owners, my goal with dance studio photography is to make the entire process as organized and easy as possible while creating images that beautifully represent their studio. From full dance teams and smaller groups to individual portraits, dance headshots, staff photos, and recital photography, every studio has different needs, and I love being able to customize the experience around them.

Dance is also something I love incorporating into senior photography. If dance has been a big part of a high school senior’s life, it absolutely deserves a place in her senior portraits! We can incorporate dance images alongside traditional senior pictures so her final gallery tells a much more complete story of who she is during her senior year.
