Emma’s senior photo session was such a joy to photograph! She’s a Godwin High School senior who wanted an urban Richmond feel for her session, so we headed downtown to Tredegar Iron Works and the Canal Walk, two of my favorite spots for senior portraits in Richmond, Virginia.

At the beginning of her session, Emma’s mom, Annie, and her younger siblings, Charlotte and Josh, jumped in for a few quick family photos. I love when families do this! It’s such a great way to celebrate this milestone and document this moment for everyone together.

Emma has such a fun and easygoing personality. She loves dance, reading, snowboarding, paddleboarding, and even skateboarding, and that mix of energy and creativity showed in every single image. We walked along the brick paths by the Canal Walk, stopped at Tredegar for those classic Richmond textures and riverfront views, and captured a beautiful mix of natural, candid, and editorial-style portraits.

Emma was such a natural in front of the camera, confident, artistic, and effortlessly stylish. Her love of dance came through in the way she moved, and after her senior session, her mom booked an Artistic Dance Session for a few weeks later—even before seeing the images from her high school senior session. Emma dances at Marianne Kelley’s School of Dance, and photographing her doing what she loves most will be the perfect continuation of her senior experience.

Between her urban senior portraits and her upcoming Artistic Dance Session, Emma’s photos perfectly capture who she is, a creative, active, and confident young woman ready for whatever comes next.
