From the very beginning of planning her senior session, Addison had a vision. She wanted tall grasses, beautiful trees, lots of natural light, and photographs that felt warm, relaxed, and completely like her. Pony Pasture in Richmond ended up being such a beautiful setting to bring it all together.
Addison is a senior at Thomas Dale High School, but I actually first met her years ago through Legacy School of Dance. She has been dancing for the past 10 years, and I had photographed her before through Legacy, so it was really special to finally have her in front of my camera for a session that was all about her.
We started her session surrounded by all of the greenery and beautiful light at Pony Pasture and then made our way to the more open areas and tall grasses as the evening went on. Addison loves being outdoors, so the location felt especially fitting for her. She also works at Cross Creek Nursery & Landscaping in Midlothian and loves painting and listening to music.
And her outfits were SO good! Addison brought a mix of relaxed and feminine pieces, with many of them from Free People. A white top, jeans and a flowy cardigan gave us a more casual look, while her short white dress was perfect as the light became softer later in the evening. Everything worked so naturally with the setting and gave us plenty of variety without feeling overly styled.
Before her session, Addison told me something I hear from so many seniors—she wasn't always sure she loved the way she looked in professional photographs. She trusted me to help with posing and put her in positions where she would feel confident.
I loved that she shared that with me because it allowed me to be even more intentional throughout her session. There was no expectation for her to arrive knowing how to pose or what to do in front of the camera. We kept things moving, tried different angles, found the most beautiful light, and made little adjustments along the way until everything felt natural.
And she was absolutely beautiful.
By the end of the evening, we had created exactly what Addison had envisioned—warm, light-filled senior portraits surrounded by nature that still felt completely like her.
Now she's heading into her senior year at Thomas Dale and beginning the exciting process of looking at colleges both in Virginia and out of state. There are so many big decisions and changes ahead, which is one of the reasons I love senior portraits so much. They capture this little window of time between everything these kids have already accomplished and everything that's still ahead of them.
Addison, I loved getting to photograph you and can't wait to see where this next chapter takes you!
If you're looking for a Richmond VA senior photographer, I photograph seniors from public and private schools throughout Richmond, Midlothian, Chesterfield, and the surrounding areas. Every senior portrait experience is customized around your senior—from wardrobe and location planning to the session itself—so we can create portraits that feel beautiful, personal, and completely their own.
