I absolutely loved photographing Gracie’s senior session at Maymont Park in Richmond, Virginia. From the moment she arrived, she brought so much energy, creativity, and genuine joy to every part of her session. Gracie is a senior at Cosby High School and has been dancing at Chesterfield Dance Center for 14 years. She has competed for 13 of those years, which is incredible. Dance is a huge part of her life, so weaving that into her photos made the session feel personal and true to who she is.

Gracie showed up with three amazing outfits that each gave us a completely different look around Maymont. She also wanted at least one photo with her pointe shoes, either in her hands or over her shoulder, and I loved that idea. It was the perfect way to honor all the years she has put into dance at Chesterfield Dance Center. Those images ended up being some of my absolute favorites.

She told me she loves photos where she’s laughing or genuinely smiling, and honestly, that made my job so easy. Gracie has such a warm and natural personality. Whether we were in the gardens, on the stone pathways, or tucked into that dreamy golden light Maymont is known for, she was glowing in every shot. Between her love for drawing, crafting, music, and time with friends, it was clear how creative and full of life she is.

One of my favorite parts of this session is that Gracie has been following my work for years. I photographed her during the Nutcracker in 2022, so having her back in front of my camera for senior portraits felt extra special. Her friend Courtney also did her senior pictures with me, and it was so fun to have Gracie in front of my camera too. I love seeing each senior’s personality shine in their own way.
