Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing Momentum Dance Center at the University of Richmond. The afternoon was full of energy, creativity, and so much joy. From the youngest dancers just beginning their journey to high school seniors preparing for an exciting final year, each one brought their own spark and passion to the camera.

For the past couple of years, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph Momentum—both their company photos and their spring recital portraits. It’s always such a privilege to see these dancers grow, not just in their technique but in their confidence as well. Every season feels a little different, with new choreography, fresh faces, and special moments to capture.

The University of Richmond created such a beautiful setting for this year’s photos. Its mix of timeless architecture, green spaces, and natural light made the perfect backdrop to showcase the dancers’ talent. From sweet smiles and playful poses from the younger students to seniors savoring this milestone, the day was filled with reminders of how much dedication and teamwork go into each season of dance.

As a Richmond dance photographer, I feel so fortunate to work with studios like Momentum Dance Center that place just as much value on community as they do on performance. These portraits go beyond costumes and choreography—they’re a way for families to hold onto this chapter of their child’s life, whether it’s the very first recital or the last year before graduation.
