Some sessions begin as senior portraits and quietly turn into something much more meaningful.

Anderson is a senior at Deep Run High School, and when his family reached out, it was clear from the start that this session wasn’t just about checking off senior photos. Angela, his mom, really wanted to make sure they captured their family together during this season, knowing how quickly senior year moves and how much changes once it’s over.

As a Richmond senior photographer and a mom myself, I understand that instinct completely. One moment you’re scheduling photos, and the next you’re realizing how close you are to a new chapter.

We chose the University of Richmond for their session, and it ended up being such a great fit. The campus feels calm and classic, with space to walk, talk, and let things unfold without rushing. It works beautifully for senior photos and family pictures in Richmond, especially when you want the session to feel relaxed and natural.

Anderson brought an easy confidence to his senior session. He enjoys golf, basketball, and gaming, and that laid-back energy carried through the entire shoot. Nothing felt forced or overly posed. It felt comfortable, real, and very much like him.

His sisters, Stella and Everly, brought so much personality and fun into the session, while Ryan and Angela anchored everything with that steady presence that comes from years of raising a family together. These are the moments that matter most. The ones where laughter happens naturally and everyone forgets about the camera for a bit.

Senior year often focuses on the student, but it’s a transition for the entire family. Including family photos during a senior session creates images that grow more meaningful over time. These are the photographs families come back to long after graduation announcements have been sent and schedules have shifted.

They found me through their friend Blair, which always means a lot. That built-in trust makes everything feel easier from the very beginning, and this session flowed in the best way.

After sessions like this, I always encourage families to think about how their images will live beyond the screen. Printed photographs have a way of slowing life down and grounding memories, turning a moment into something tangible and lasting. Helping families think through how to preserve this season in a meaningful way is one of my favorite parts of what I do.
